I. Community Needs Assessment

II. Awareness campaigns plus basic mediation

II. Awareness campaigns plus basic mediation

We will conduct a comprehensive assessment to identify the essential needs of target communities, crucial for their socio-economic advancement and link them to the available social welfare schemes.

  1. Focus group discussions (FGDs) with the members of the local communities, village leaders.
  2. Analysis of the themes and identification of the priority needs of the community.
  3. Scheme Identification – identification of relevant government social welfare schemes and creation of a package to address identified needs.
  4. Baseline data collection to assess the indicators – for example, awareness and enrolment rates for the identified welfare schemes.

II. Awareness campaigns plus basic mediation

  1. Student-led awareness campaigns: After completing a training provided by the CAAP team, volunteer high school students will conduct house-to-house visits and become the leaders of the public outreach campaign. They will use drama, storytelling and other mediums of community engagement based on local art and culture to disseminate essential information effectively.
  2. Digital awareness campaign: Digital platforms with an existing reach and availability will be simultaneously leveraged. For example, YouTube videos, WhatsApp messages and Instagram. There will be awards for local creators to develop digital media with high reach based on pre-defined criterion for alternative welfare schemes dissemination.
  3. Community mobilization activities will be a major part of the awareness campaign to prepare the community for the next phase of camp-based basic and advanced mediation. This includes preparing documents and fulfilling other requirements.

III. Advanced Mediation camps

III. Advanced Mediation camps

In collaboration with local government officers, community leaders and other NGOs, camp-based facilitation services would be provided to each of the 6 intervention units on a rolling basis. The aim of these camps will be for the community members to register for identified schemes, seek clarification for the documents required and understand immediate next steps. This will ensure that all community members fully comprehend the requirements, documents, benefits, and enabling procedures. This should ensure that the community is truly provided with essential information and documents to hold the government accountable even after our project activities finish.

Research Activities

III. Advanced Mediation camps

1. Publications: Our research arm will publish articles based on findings from the project, conducting in-depth analyses on      shortcomings of the design and delivery of chosen schemes. Through our research we will provide recommendations to the government for optimum implementation strategies for future implementation.

2. Advocacy through Policy Briefs

i. In cases where no suitable schemes exist that address the needs highlighted by the targeted community, we will advocate for their introduction through policy briefs, providing actionable recommendations to effectively address these gaps.

ii. Identified gaps in existing schemes will be highlighted and presented with actionable insights for their improvement.
