Our implementation activities (Project Connect) promote access to welfare schemes for eligible people from all sections of society, thus promoting ‘inclusive growth’. Despite India’s GDP per capita growing fivefold in 20 years, poverty reduction hasn’t kept pace. Social protection schemes are crucial for inclusive growth and addressing inequality, but gaps in their delivery must be addressed to fully realize their potential in reducing poverty.
Social protection schemes have historically played a significant role in boosting living standards, reducing poverty, and driving economic development in countries across the world.
India’s government has yet to update social protection schemes to be more responsive and transparent, resulting in higher poverty rates compared to similar economies. Addressing these issues is key to achieving inclusive societal growth, which in turn promotes national economic development.
